OBITUARY.
Clara Elizabeth Coleman was born in Chicago, Ill., April 15, 1555 [sic] died on Tuesday morning December 15, 1908, aged 53 years, 8 months. She came with her parents to Kansas in the fall of 1858 settling on South Cedar in Jackson county. On May 24, 1872 she was united in marriage to Fred C. Harwood at Holton, Kansas, beginning life in the new home one mile from where her parents settled, remaining there until their removal to this community four years ago. To this union five children were born; Mrs. Lucy Bruton, of Valley Falls, Bert Harwood, of Birmingham, Kansas, James Harwood, of Red Rock, Oklahoma, and two other sons who preceded the mother to the beyond. Besides her husband and three children she leaves two grandchildren, her mother, two sisters and three brothers, and many others who deeply feel her loss.
Mrs. Harwood was a faithful and patient wife and mother, a kind and considerate friend and true neighbor. Her maternal spirit and gentle ways won for her the love and esteem of all who knew her, and often by friends and neighbors she was called mother as those in the home. During her lingering illness Mrs. Harwood was always patient bearing her suffering with fortitude, and always thoughtful and solicitous for the welfare of others. Truly a good woman has gone to her reward.
