Mrs. Mellie Barnett of Columbia Eastside died Sunday night in the Caldwell Hospital in Columbia after a brief illness.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Tuesday of this week at the First United Methodist Church with the pastor, Rev. Sam Holliday, and a former pastor, Rev. Sidney Seegers of Columbia, officiating.

Burial was made in the Columbia Hill Cemetery under direction of Riser and Son Funeral Home of Columbia.

Mrs. Barnett's husbnad, E. L. Barnett, preceded her in death a short time ago. She and her husband were in the mercantile business here for a number of years.

Her parents were the late Mr. and Mrs. Cicero Jarrell, long-time residents of the area. Mr. Jarrell at one time represented Ward 6 on the Caldwell Parish Police Jury and was serving in that capacity at the time the courthouse which was torn down in 1938 was erected around the turn of the present century. The late Boatner Jarrell, who was mayor here and operated a store on Main Street for a number of years was a brother.

Survivors include one sister, Mrs. Lillie D. Godfrey of Winnsboro; four nieces and five nephews. Among these are Mrs. W. H. Bennett and C. R. Godfrey.
