When I took over management of this memorial in June 2023, it did not have any dates or location for birth and death, and it did not have a photo of the head stone. The following is to document my edits:
1. US Census records for Tishomingo County, MS for both 1850 and 1860 indicate that Samuel was born about 1841.
2. Confederate Soldiers Compiled Service Records, 1861-1865, indicate that he enlisted in 1st Cavalry in 1862.
3. The Headstone Applications for Military Veterans, 1925-1970, indicates his death date as 1863, and that his grave was unmarked in the Dean cemetery. The application was submitted August 1, 1931, by G. A. Dean.
4. I got the photo of the headstone from Byron Davis, whose 2nd great grandfather was a brother of Samuel's.
