He attended Pawnee City High School and graduated in 1958. On Nov. 12, 1959 he married Carolee Hutton in Seneca, Kan. To this union four children were born, Diane Marie, Laura Lynne, Steven Mark and Dana Rene. On April 25, 1992 he married Gayle Carney in Farmington, Ark.
He was baptized in the Christian Church.
He was preceded in death by his second wife Gayle Carney, daughters, Laura and Dana, son-in-law Jamie Petty, grandson Steven John (Babuich), brothers, Laurel and Joy.
Survived by son Steven Howard of Verdon, daughter Diane Marie and husband Tom Graham of Beatrice, sister Donna Cordon and husband Kenny of Chanute, Kan.
