Mrs. A. J. Combs, another of Emerson's well known and highly respected women, passed away at her home in Emerson, Friday, March 12, after a long period of illness and ill health.
Funeral services were held from the residence on Sunday afternoon at 2:30, Rev. W. J. Robinson of the Baptist Church officiating.
Elizabeth S. Brown was born in Claremont County, Ohio on May 25th,1842. She was the youngest of a family on nine children all of whom she has survived. On January 12th, 1865, she was united in marriage to A. J. Combs, also of Claremont county, Ohio. Some time in the 0's. Mr. and Mrs. Combs moved from Ohio over into the state of Illinois, settling for a short time at Olney and later moving to other points in that state, at each of these places, living only a short time. In the year of 1882, they moved to Iowa settling in Carroll County. Here they made their home until 1888, when they moved to Mills County, settling ona farm near Emerson. Here in the vicinity of Emerson, Mr. and Mrs. Combs spent many happy years, helping to develop the county, rearing their children to manhood, and gradually gathering about themselves a circle of friends and neighbors who came to appreciate their real worth.
Mrs. Combs in early girlhood united with the Christian Church, but on moving to Emerson, united with the Baptist Church of which church she has been a member since 1899.
The deceased leaves to mourn her loss, two sons, Perley A. Combs, of Portland, Oregon, and Bert E. Combs of Emerson, Iowa. The husband, A. J. Combs died on June 18, 1914.
