Susie Lorena Wills Sheppard, 91, of Salem, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Saturday, July 17, 2010 with her family by her side. She was born on July 14, 1919 in Salem, daughter of the late George Morrison Wills and Susie Lucresia Wills of Stewartsville, VA. She was the youngest of seven daughters who have all passed before. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Garland Henderson Sheppard, of 49 years. She is survived by her daughter, Sheila Ann Fowler and husband, Tommy, of Vinton; grandchildren, Scott Andrew Fowler and wife, Amy, of Hardy and Lisa Ann Fowler, of Roanoke. She will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. "For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also that are fallen asleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven, with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first" (1 Thessalonians 4:14,16). A period of visitation will be held on Monday, July 19, 2010 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the John M. Oakey & Son Funeral Home in Salem. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, July 20, 2010 at 11 a.m. in the funeral home's chapel. Interment will follow at Cedar Lawn Memorial Park in Roanoke. Pastor Andy Rice and Pastor Rodger Hogan will officiate. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Roanoke Rescue Mission, 402 4th Street, SE, Roanoke, Virginia 24013. The Sheppard family is being served by John M. Oakey & Son Funeral and Cremation Service in Salem.
