Susanna Barlet, daughter of John Barlet and Susanna Bauman, was born in Ruscombmanor, Berks county on Oct. 15, 1816. She was one of 10 children born to John and Susan and the fourth daughter of nine. Likely named for her mother or paternal aunt. Susan’s siblings: Mary, wife of William East; Elizabeth, wife of Michael Rishel; Kate, wife of Aaron Rightmyer; Margaret, died young; Anna, wife of Thomas Roberts; Sarah, wife of Jacob Hinkel; Esther, single; Barbara, wife of Philip Miller.

Susan’s paternal grandparents were Paul Barlet and Catharine Moll. Her grandmother, Catharine Moll, died young. So she may have had little or no recollection of her, however, her grandfather, Paul Barlet, lived 83years, 2months and 22days, dying on Oct 22, 1840. Paul Barlet, a Revolutionary War Veteran, along with his brothers Jacob (d. 1828 Ohio) and John (1838 Huntingdon county, PA), were present for the battles of Amboy, Brandywine and Germantown. Susan’s maternal grandparents were John Bauman (d. 1796 Windsor, Berks county) and Magdalena Greth. Magdalena served as administrator for her husband’s estate on Jul 25, 1798. Little is known about Magdalena after this time. She was the daughter of Andreas Greth.

By 1850, Susan who married John Dannerberger about 1836, were living on or near his father’s farm, (David Donaberger), in Richmond township, Berks county. Five children were also living in the household at this time: Catharine 12; David 10; Sarah 9; John 6; and Emma 1.

Susan, her husband and family, likely left Berks county after the death of her mother Susan, in May 1859. John Dannerberger’s property in Richmond township was still listed in H. F. Bridgens 1860 township landowner atlas. Today that property is located at the N.W. intersection of Gift and Hard Hill roads in Richmond township, Berks county, Pennsylvania.

In 1860, Susan, John, a farmer, and children: David; John; Emma; Silas; William; Mary Louise; and possibly Franklin, were now living in Salisbury township, Sangamon county, Illinois. They were counted as part of the 17th Sub-division of Sangamon county on Sep 24th by Joseph Kelley.

In 1870, Susan, John, a farmer, and children: William; and Mary Louise, were living in the town of Sacket, Sangamon county, Illinois.

In 1880, Susan and John, a farmer, are living in the Valley of Salisbury County, about a ½ mile southeast of town, off present day highway 97.

Both Susan and John are buried in Salisbury cemetery, ½ mile north of town on Salisbury Cemetery road.
