Clarence Sidney "Nick" Nichols, of Henrico, died Wednesday, July 14, 2010. He was preceded in death by his wife, Natalie Agatha Brigham Nichols; and his only child, Ronald Charles Nichols.

He is survived by his daughter-in-law, Betty Nichols Cipolletti; two granddaughters, Suzie Spence and husband, William, and Cathy Tranka and husband, Anthony; and two great-grandchildren, Beth Keane and Charles Spence. He is also survived by a brother, Calvin Nichols of Augusta, Maine; and a sister, Patricia Sorn of LaGrande, Oregon. Nick was born on August 3, 1920, in Augusta, Maine.

He earned a B.S. in engineering from the University of Maine, Orono, in 1942, and immediately joined the Army Air Corps, attending officer training at Yale University. During WWII, he was stationed in Charlotte, N.C., and Honolulu, Hawaii.

Nick worked for International Paper in Maine and New York. He was the mill manager in Corinth, N.Y., and in charge of building the Ticonderoga, N.Y. mill before moving to headquarters in Glens Falls and New York City. He retired in 1982. Throughout life Nick did a great deal of volunteer work. He was an avid skier and golfer into his 80s.

The family will receive friends Saturday, July 17, at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church, 9505 Gayton Rd., Henrico, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Greenwood Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary's Building Fund.
