Lash, Albert W "Pete", 89, of Farmington, died Tuesday, June 27, 2006 in Beckett House in New Concord, Ohio.
He was born December 17, 1916 in Farmington, the son of the late William Henry Lash and Mary Wells Lash.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert "Tubby" Lash and William Henry Lash.
Pete was a 1934 graduate of Martins Ferry High School. Shortly thereafter he began his career with Westlake Brothers Chevrolet in Martins Ferry. He later purchased the dealership and the name was changed to Pete Lash Chevrolet. He worked there for 42 years before retiring in 1982.
Pete served as President of the Martins Ferry Board of Trade; he was a Director Emeritus of the Citizens Bank; a member of the former Kiwanis Club in Martins Ferry; the Colerain Grange No 284; the National Grange; the Colerain VFD; a 50 year plus member of the Belmont Lodge No 16 F and AM; a former Colerain Township Clerk; and a member of the Colerain Township Board of Education. Pete was a charter member of the Colerain Ruritan Club; the former Governor of the Ohio District Ruritan; and Ruritan National Director, whee he developed many lasting friendships from throughout the United States. He was a member of the Colerain Senior Citizens; and the Colerain Presbyterian Church, where he served as Deacon and Elder. He was Clerk of Session for 33 years; and served on the initial Camp Presmont Board of Trustees. As a member of the Colerain 4-H Club and the Belmont County National 4-H Council, he was instrumental in the development of Camp Piedmont. Pete was a Belmont County representative for the RC&D, which was a research, conservation and development organization that addressed conservation and environmental concerns of this area. He was a lifetime member of the Belmont Better Hunting and Fishing Club, where he served as secretary and treasurer. Pete served on the planning committee for the lakes of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District; and was a Deputy Law Enforcement Officer for the Ohio Division of Wildlife; a member of the Belmont County Farm Bureau; and the Board of Directors of the Belmont County Auto Association.
Pete is survived by his wife, Hester Stobbs Lash; two daughters, Linda Foster and her husband, Robert, of Columbus and Gail Requardt and her husband, Terry, of New Concord; a brother, David Lash and his wife, Clara, of Colerain; a sister, Martha Conaway and hr husband, Robert, of Pataskala, four grandchildren, William and Allan Foster and Matthew and Gregory Stamm, four step-grandchildren, Jennifer McCoy and her husband, Brian, Tammy Whitehair and her husband, Micah, and Heather and Kyle Requardt; two step great-grandchildren, Austin McCoy and Caden Whitehair; as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Wilson Funeral Home, 920 National Road, Brookside, Ohio.
Friends are then invited to attend visitation Friday from 10 am until the time of Pete's funeral services at 11 am at the Colerain Presbyterian Church with the Reverend Bill Lawrence officiating.
Interment will follow in Farmington Cemetery.
