Dorothy Eloise Bergerud, 84, of Fergus Falls, died Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2008, at Pioneer Retirement Community in Fergus Falls, where she had resided since 1994.

She was born Jan. 16, 1924, in Fergus Falls, the daughter of Herman and Clarice (Iverson) Stock. Dorothy attended school in Western Township and graduated from Fergus Falls Senior High School in 1942. She went to a year of Teachers College and taught at several country school houses in the area.

On Nov. 25, 1949, she married Walter E. Bergerud and they lived on a farm in Western Township.

Her greatest joy was spending time with her grandchildren, and she also enjoyed her flower gardens. Dorothy loved teaching and touched many lives with her kind and gentle style for many years.

Her love of children and teaching was a great gift that she passed on to her children and grandchildren.

Dorothy and Walter also loved to go to old time dances.

She was an active member at Aastad Lutheran Church where she taught Sunday school and was also a member of the Ladies Aid.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Walter in 2003; four brothers, Arnold, Addison, Stanley and Eugene Stock; and two sisters, Helen Foglia and Joyce Mulville.

Survivors include her three children, Donald (Linda) Bergerud of Fergus Falls and Minnetonka, Ginny Olson of Walcott, N.D., and Daniel (Kathleen) Bergerud, Post Falls, Idaho; seven grandchildren, Dr. Heather Bergerud (David Anderson), Heidi (Wesley) Wiest, Jill Bergerud, Michael Olson, Christine Olson, Margret Bergerud, and Patricia Bergerud; four great-grandchildren, Kira and Zoe Anderson, Jake and Zara Wiest; a brother, Henry T. (Marie) Stock; a sister, LaVerne (Marland) Mieska; three sisters-in-law, Florence, Joyce and Pat Stock; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: One hour prior to the service at the church

Service: 2 p.m. Thursday at Aastad Lutheran Church, rural Fergus Falls
