This photo is most likely of the wrong Asahel. The dates shown for Asahel are those shown in "The Hazen Family in America", p. 310. It is possible that the stone represents a younger brother of Darius, Asahel's father. Asahel and Julia Gates were married in Geauga County, 14 Feb. 1843, per "The Hazen Family in America"; that book indicates that they had three children. Records indexed on familysearch.org give the same marriage date. If the 1807 y.o.b. on the stone is correct, his mother would have been only twelve years old - improbable.
