Some researchers believe he may have died in 1848 instead of 1838, but it is clear based on his probate records that he died in 1838, as Letters of Administration were filed on 2 Jan 1839 soon after his death. The tombstone also indicates 1838. There is a 1916 book about Schuylkill County containing historical sketches of old families and prominent citizens that has an article about him wherein it states that he was a boatman on the Schuylkill Canal transporting coal and that he died some time after a piece of timber fell on him. It has a list of children which includes two additional daughters (total of 3) which cannot be correct since his tombstone indicates he had only one. A declaration by his widow in the probate record says he had 4 children: Levi, William, Angeline, and Manassa. His widow Susannah apparently remarried to a Benjamin Sandt/Sands and had the other children. She is identified as Susannah Sandt in her father's probate records.
