Raymond V. Powers, age 85, of Centerville, Iowa, died Monday, November 6, 2006 at Mercy Medical Center in Centerville. He was born the son of Harry O. and Tina(McDaonald)Powers on March 30, 1921 in Centerville, Iowa. He attended Rural Wyatt School and graduated from Centerville Community School in 1937 and later attended Junior College in Centervile for 2 years.

On May 20, 1941, Raymond was united in marriage to Maxine Arbogast and later was united in marriage to Dorothy Mullin-McKee on August 18, 1968 at the Drake Avenue Christian Church in Centerville. He spent his life with livestock and farming in Bellair Township until family members took over; he also owned land in Lincoln, Caldwell townships in Appanoose County as well as land in Wayne County. He worked for 15 years as a common laborer for Union Carbide in Centerville. He and his wife moved to Mesa,
Arizona in 1983 and 1995 moved back to Centerville due to his health Raymond accepted Christ as his Savior in 1933, and was baptized Easter Sunday of that same year. During his years of good health, he was quite active in many projects. At Drake Avenue Christian Church he was a Sunday School teacher, Church Board Member; also was a little league baseball coach, 4-H leader, school board member for Bellair Township, member of ASCS, Farm Bureau, 18-80 Club; Referee many High School Basketball games and Umpired both Baseball a Softball.

He was predceded in death by: his parents; his first wife, Maxine Powers on February 4, 1968; daughter, Lynn Starchevich on April 4, 2002 and step-son, A.D. McKee.

Raymond is survived by: his wife, Dorthy Powers of Centerville, Iowa; son, Larry and his wife, Barb Powers of Numa, Iowa; son-in-law, Stephen Starchevich of Centerville, Iowa; grandchildren, Kelly Culver, Stephenie Mattly, Hope Faris, Tara Powers, Rick Powers and Marty Powers all of Centerville, Iowa; step-daughter, Sandra and her husband, Kevin Tracy of Alpheretta, Georgia; step-granddaughters, Sheri Shore of Russell, Iowa, Renee Keilman of Chicago, Illinois and Sheila Tracy of Alpharetta, Georgia; great granddaughter, Brianna Powers; great grandsons, Kord and Keath Culver, Garrett Faris, Tommy Mattly and Brice Powers all of Centerville, Iowa; step-great granddaughter, Trinity and Tressa Shore and step-great grandson, Tyler Shore of Russell, Iowa; sister-in-laws, Irene Arbogast and Margery Weiler, and many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 10, 2006 at 10am at the Schmidt Family Funeral Home in Centerville, Iowa with Pastor Kay Singley officiating. Burial will follow in the Dale Cemetery north of Centerville. Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 9, 2006 from, 2-8pm at the funeral home. Memorials can be made to either the 4-H Foundation or to Drake Avenue Christian Church.
