She was born in Killeen, TX on August 4, 1921, to Andrew Jackson (Jack) Blair and Willie Mae Elmore Blair. The family moved to Abilene, Texas in December of 1928. She was baptized in 1934 at South Side Baptist Church in Abilene, where she remained a member the rest of her life. Doris graduated from Abilene High School in 1939, and attended Gail Business College for one year. She worked for the late Judge W. R. Ely and the Texas Railroad Commission.

Doris married Irving Horowitz on September 1, 1944. Their daughter, Beverly Ruth, was born in 1947. Mr. Horowitz preceded Doris in death.

She is survived by her daughter, Beverly Hollowell and her husband, Luther, of Abilene; her sister, Nina Woodard of Abilene, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Doris read the Bible faithfully and was a prayer warrior. She was a faithful wife and a loving mother, and a friend to all who knew her. She took every chance possible to tell others about Jesus.

By her request, there will be a graveside service for immediate family only under the direction of The Hamil Family Funeral Home, 6449 Buffalo Gap Road in Abilene. Rev. Fred Watson will officiate. The family will receive friends at a visitation on Monday, June 21, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Memorials may be sent to Meals on Wheels Plus, P O Box 903, Abilene, TX 79604, or West Texas Rehabilitation Center, 4601 Hartford, Abilene, TX 79605.
