Daughter of Joshua and Mary Edwards.
She was united in marriage to Reuel F. Swain September 15, 1872. To this union were born four children, three sons and one daughter, all of whom are living.
In the fall of 1891, she, with her family, came to Iowa, settling near Lynnville, since which her home has been in Jasper county, the last five years in Kellogg.
In early life she united with the Friends church, remaining a member through life. Of a quiet, retiring disposition, she always won a host of friends wherever she resided.
During the past summer she had been in failing health. September 20, three weeks ago, she went to Iowa City for a surgical operation, hoping thereby to have her health restored. For some days she seemed to rally, but soon she began to fail rapidly, and passed away Tuesday evening about 8 o'clock.
Besides her husband, she leaves four children: Edward, of Kellogg, Mrs. Alice Taylor, near Lynnville; Harry,in Omaha, Nebraska; and Herman, a member of Co. D. First U.S. Infantry, Vancouver, Washington, also three sisters and two brothers, in Indiana besides a large circle of friends.
The funeral services were held Thursday, October 12, at the M.E. church, conducted by the pastor, Rev. H. C. Millice, at the close her remains were laid to rest in the Kellogg cemetery.
