Zelena M. Villiard Veness, 82, of Ladysmith and formerly of Exeland, died Wednesday, March 11, at Rusk County Memorial Nursing home in Ladysmith.
She was born Feb. 17, 1910 in Osceola, Iowa, daughter of Sherman and Anna (Shinn) Baker. She was raised in Exeland and worked at Milesmaster for three years. She was joined in marriage to William Villiard in July 1929 in Exeland. After William died in 1956, she was joined in marriage to Lewis Veness in July 1959 in Exeland. Lewis died three months later, and she moved to Chicago, where she worked as a housekeeper for four years.
In 1965 she returned to Exeland and worked at Marian Manor before moving to Ladysmith until her retirement in 1979. She then moved to Radisson in 1980 for four years. Her later years were spent in Bruce, until she moved to Ladysmith in 1991. She was a former member of the Altar Society at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Exeland.
She is survived by two sons, Albert Villiard of Wayne, MI and Floyd (Judy) Villiard of Layton, UT; three daughters, Isabell (Ray) Moudry and Mary Lou (Ray) Mleczko, both of Radisson and Bettie Herron of Wayne, MI; 20 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; one brother, Kenneith Baker of Exeland; and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by two sisters, Rena Veness and Lula Bates; three brothers, Elvin, Wilbur, and Wade Baker; one granddaughter, and one great-grandson.
Casketbearers were Paul Herron, Robert Herron, Chris Mleczko, Joe Mleczko, Tom Mleczko, and James Moudry.
