John Allison, pioneer citizen of Clarksville and one of the oldest residents of Red River County died at the Confederate home in Austin, where he had made his home several months, at 6 o'clock Friday morning, following a brief illness. The body was buried in Fairview cemetery Sunday afternoon, following funeral service held at the residence of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Barry at 3 o'clock., OBIT: RED RIVER COUNTY REVIEW Tuesday, 22 Sep 1925, from microfilm in the Clarksville Library, Reel 2002-2: Captain John Allison, one of the most highly respected of Clarksville's pioneer citizens, answered the final summons at the Confederate Home in Austin Friday 18 Sep 1925 where he has made his home for the last few years. Captain Allison was born in Illinois on 30 Oct 1830 and came to Texas when twenty-one years of age, settling near Clarksville. He was married to Miss Eda Clifton in 1852, to which union five children were born, one of whom, Mrs. W. A. Taylor of Eureka Springs, Arkansas, survive. At the outbreak of the Civil War, Mr. Allison enlisted in Gould's Regiment in which he served with distinction, being commissioned Captain. Following the close of the war he returned to Red River County. In 1867 he was united in marriage to Mrs. Sue Moseley with three children blessing this union, one of whom, Mrs. Jap Berry, survive. He is also survived by fourteen grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren and one great-great grandson. The remains were brought here from Austin and funeral services were held from the home of his daughter, Mrs. Jap Barry at three o'clock Sunday afternoon, with interrment in Fairview Cemetery, Rev. Rupert Nanney officiating. Out of town friends and relatives who attended the funeral included; Mrs. S. P. Allison of Denton; George Aubrey of Texarkana; Mr. and Mrs. Fred Goodman of Texarkana; W. A. Taylor of Eureka Springs, Ark; D. A. Chambers of Detroit; Clifton Chambers of Mexia; Mr. and Mrs. David Chambers of Blossom and Mr. and Mrs. Mel Wilerson of Bogata. Active pallbearers were John A.Kunkel, Will Burks, M. T. Goodman, M. L. Wren, H. H. Lennox and J. A. Dickson. Honorary pallbearers were Capt. J. K. P. Jamison, O. B. Baker, J. E. Jenkins, T. E. Gaines and W. N. Burkhead, all members of John C. Burks Camp 11, C. V. of which Camptain Allison was a member.
