David Hottel was the 8th child of John Jacob Hottel and Mary Ringerin (or Rinker. His occupation was farmer and tanner. David had at least eight children. He and his first wife moved from Virginia to North Bristol, Ohio. It is presently unclear, due to conflicting information sources, whether or not he had any children with his second wife, with whom he lived in Crawford County, PA. David, it was said in the first Hottel-Keller family genealogy (now in the public domain), was said to have weighed 300 pounds. His burial site is not presently known.
