Thelbert graduated from Seymour schools and Texas Technological College. He was a Naval Aviator during WWII, flying with the VB 109 Squadron in the Pacific Theater. His group made some of the first bombing runs on the Marshall, Truk Islands, Iwo Jima and other Japanese strongholds. He later taught agriculture at Midwestern University and Texas Tech. Thelbert also sold insurance, real estate and Amway with Sue. He and Sue also worked with single parents in their church.
Thelbert is survived by his children, Ann Norris, Jeri and John Emrich of Lubbock, Bette and John Hope of Levelland, and "Buddy" W. T. Miller, Jr. and Anne of Austin; eight grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Family will receive friends at Sanders Funeral Home on Friday from 5:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. Memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Second Baptist Church with Senior Pastor Ryon Price officiating.
