Funeral Tuesday
Mary Beran, Former Head Of Oregon School, Dies
Miss Mary C. Beran, 71, of 4910 Ascot Lane, formerly of Muscoda, died in a Madison hospital Sunday (Feb. 14 1971) after a brief illness.
She was superintendent of the Wisconsin School for Girls, Oregon, from 1952 to 1956.
She had also worked in Madison as a state social worker, retiring in 1965.
Miss Beran lived in the Muscoda area for about 20 years, attended Platteville State Teacher's College, and received a master's degree from the University of Wisconsin.
From 1937 to 1941, she was supervisor of non-resident assistance in the Welfare Dept.'s division of public assistance. She was also supervisor of women's work for the National Youth Administration (NYA) in Wisconsin. Miss Beran was formerly public assistance technician with the Federal Security Exchange, Chicago.
Surviving are two brothers, the Rev. Milo Beran, Cincinnati, Ohio, and Joe Beran, Clements, Minn., and nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Godager Funeral Home, Muscoda, where friends may call from 6 to 9 p.m. today.
