No sadder death has occurred in our city than that of Mrs. Leon Mack, who died this morning at 7:30 from a short illness of pneumonia. She had nursed her two little children with influenza, and was stricken with the dreaded disease herself and lived but a few days. The little boy is recovering but the little daughter is critically ill.

Mrs. Mack was born in Newport in 1880, being 39 years of age. For several years she lived here with her parents, also her grandparents, the late Mr. and Mrs. Magoffin. She was a daughter of Chas. T. Bateman of our city and her mother was Miss Anna Magoffin, a charming girl of Newport. Her death is deeply regretted by her many friends, who did not know she was sick. The body will be carried to Moorefield on the early morning train tomorrow and buried in the lot the Mack Family.

Mr. and Mrs. Mack moved here just a few weeks ago from their country home in Oil Trough to put the children in school and occupied the J.D. Neal home. She was a splendid wife and friend, and a devoted mother and the little son and daughter will miss greatly their mother's love.

The funeral service will be held at the grave at Moorfield by Rev. Verne Stover of the Episcopal Church of Batesville. The husband, father, and sister, Miss Emma Bateman, have the deepest sympathy of their friends in their great bereavement.
