Husband of Rebecca Hildebrand.

Jonathan Jefferson Baldwin (or J.J., as he was often called in newspapers) was a court clerk for Adams county for many years. He was elected to be a delegate for Gettysburg in 1840 and attended the Baltimore ratification convention. Aside from his court and political duties J.J. was also a hatmaker throughout his life. After the death of his first wife, Sarah Ann Brinkerhoff, J.J. married Rebecca Hildebrand and lived 43 more years, eventually dying in Neoga Illinois. His funeral was held at a Presbyterian church, Rev. Landis officiating. [Please note that although the gravestone says he died on the 14th of November this is incorrect. His nephew announced through The Mattoon Daily that J.J. was nearing death on the 19th, and the the official notification for death went out on the 21st. J.J. officially died on Sunday, the 20th, at 1 o'clock]
