J. S. LANNING IS TAKEN BY DEATH

Well Known Figure in Farm Loan Business Passes in Hospital Wednesday

J. S. Lanning, 64, a trustee of the Merchants State bank, died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was widely known here in the farm loan business and resided at 1108 North Emporia.

Mr. Lanning was born in Savannah, Mo., on January 24, 1871. In 1901, he organized the bank at Denison and lived there for some years. In 1915, he moved to Wichita and operated the Sanitary Grocery here at 111 West Douglas until 1921 when he went into the farm loan business.

He was a charter member of the Denison Masonic lodge and was a member of the Wichita Consistory. He was a member of Central Christian church. Mr. Lanning is survived by his wife, Cora; a son, Wayne, 1108 North Emporia; a daughter, Mrs. Charles F. Smith, Tulsa; a sister, Mrs. Anna Brown, 3215 East Waterman, and three grandchildren. Funeral arrangements will be announced by the Cochran-Hammond Funeral home.

Funeral services for J. S. Lanning, widely known Wichitan, will be held at the Cochran-Hammond Funeral home today at 2 p. m. Rev. Ray Snodgrass will officiate. Burial will be in Wichita Park cemetery. Pallbearers will be J. O. Wilson, John Jeffords, Howard Fleeson, George Lavender, H. M. Rounds and W. A. Dye.
