CM Sgt., U.S. Air Force, WW II, Korea, Vietnam (Ret.).

At the Western Missouri Medical Center in Warrensburg. He was a resident of Windsor, MO, and formerly, Knob Noster, MO.

On December 23, 1948, in Fort Worth, TX, he married his first wife, Dorothy L. Gerloff, who preceded him in death on December 28, 1971. They had two sons, Alan Lee & Ailous Fletcher, Jr..

He grew up in the Star City, AR area and at the age of 16, he worked for a company in Little Rock, AR, that built ammunition boxes that were used in World War II.

He was drafted in the last daft of World War II, and served three months, then enlisted in the U.S. Army Air Force in March of 1946. He later reenlisted in the U.S. Air Force, serving more than 23 years.

He worked many years as a radar technician and aircraft maintenance superintendent. He retired from the Air Force in August 1969, and moved back to Knob Noster, where he had lived while stationed at Whiteman Air Force Base in MO.

After the death of his first wife, he married Verna Childers in Clinton, AR on September 12, 1972.

He recognized the need for off-base housing and pursued a profitable hobby of building and refurbishing existing houses in Knob Noster. Together, with his wife, he managed and maintained such housing for 30 years.

He was an alderman on the Knob Noster City Council during the late 1970s, and for the past 26 yeas, he has lived on a small farm near Windsor, where he raised cows and enjoyed gardening.

He was preceded in death by his son, Ailous Fletcher Quattlebaum, Jr.; his parents, Jacob Quattlebaum & Pearl (Robertson) Quattlebaum; two sisters, and stepdaughter, Carol Quattlebaum.

In addition to his wife, Verna (Childers) Quattlebaum, he is survived by son, Alan L. Quattlebaum and his wife, Catherine I., Sedalia, MO; grandchildren, Sandra and her husband, Jon den Ouden of Wichita, KS, Charlyn Mason of Sedalia, MO; grandson, Mark A. Quattlebaum of Olathe, KS; four great-grandchildren; brother, Jerry Johnson of Star City, AR; sister, Margie Sue Edwards of Grady, AR, and an uncle, Ardron Robertson of Star City.
