John G. Myhre, 81, of Billings, went home to be with the Lord, early Saturday mornings, August 2, 1997, in Billings. He was born November 1, 1915 in Northbend, Wisconsin, the son of Fritzhoff and Ella Jane Your Myhre.
John was raised and educated in the Galesville and Trempealeau, Wisconsin area. He served in the C.C.C. program and was honorably discharged in Danbury, Wisconsin. He worked on the construction of government dams on the Mississippi River at Trempealeau, WI and Red Wing and Winona, MN.
In 1939, John hired out the Northland Greyhound Lines and was transferred to Billings. On January 24, 1942, he married Joy Nansel in Fargo, North Dakota. While with Northland, he drove out of Fargo and Bismarck ND, into Winnipeg, Canada, and out of LaCrosse, WI and Chicago, IL. He also spent several summers driving for the National Park Service in Yellowstone Park.
In May of 1977, John suffered a heart attack, and after recuperation for a year, began driving for Beco, hauling U.S. Mail between billings and Denver. In October of 1992, he had open heart surgery and retired from truck driving.
John loved to fish the Mississippi, putting out set lines to catch the big cat fish. He enjoyed camping, rv'ing, metal detecting, and gold panning. He loved going to church and was an usher at First Assembly of God for several years and a member of New Beginnings Ministry. John was a loving, happy person with a big smile, hearty laugh, and a hand shake for everyone. He was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, and one brother.
Survivors include his wife Joy of Billings: his sister Helen Sproule and her husband Earl of Hanover, IL; his brother Don Myhre of Whitehall, cousins, nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews; and brothers-in-law, John McCool of Fayetteville, AR and Thomas gore of Paducah, KY.
