Donald was born in Robbins and after graduation from High School briefly attended Appalachian State college before enlisting in the US Army for the duration of WWII. During the war he served in the Engineers in Europe.
After the War he returned to Robbins and married Betty Jean Brit and they had 3 boys and one girl.
Donald spent most of his adult life working for the local mill and part time raising cows and farming. He loved playing golf.
