Bill was born March 12, 1923 to Terrell W. and Annie (Loyd) in Newcastle, Texas. Bill proudly served his country in the US Army during World War II and he was awarded a Purple Heart and a Bronze Star with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. He was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Staff Sergeant. Bill married Polly Elder on December 14, 1945 in Jefferson County, Tennessee. Bill had retired after working 27 years as a construction supervisor in civil service at Sheppard Air Force Base.
A "True Texas Cowboy," Bill grew up and spent his early adult years farming and ranching in North Texas. Bill was an ordained Deacon and a member of First Baptist Church where he taught the Internationals Sunday School Class. He was also a longtime member of the Disabled American Veterans Organization.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, and two sisters. He is survived by his loving wife of 64 years; Polly Keen of Wichita Falls, Texas
Two children, Billy L. Keen and wife Linda of Schertz, Texas and Eunice A. Hamrick and husband Dan of Athens, Texas.
Brother Marion keen and wife Betty of Wichita Falls, Texas; four grandchildren: Brian Keen of El Paso, Texas, Devin Keen of Golden, Colorado, Stephen Hamrick and wife Loren of Grapevine, Texas and Jill Jones and husband Mike of Kingwood, Texas; and four great-grandchildren: Kinsley Jones, Khloe Jones, Olivia Hamrick and Claire Hamrick.
The family will be at the funeral home Friday evening from 6-7 PM, for visitation.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, July 3, 2010 in Lunn's Colonial Chapel with Dr. Roy Edgemon and Dr. Bob McCartney, officiating. Burial with military honors will be held in Crestview Memorial Park under the direction of Lunn's Colonial Funeral Home.
Memorials may be made to Hospice of Wichita Falls or to the First Baptist Church Building Fund.
