Cecil E. Blake, 90, of Port Lavaca passed away Wednesday, Nov. 8, 2000.
He was born Jan. 11, 1910 in Temple to the late Henry Stanton and Martha Hoag Blake. He was a self employed Phillips 66 County Gasoline Distributor and a member of the First Baptist Church. Blake was a member of the Masonic Lodge 36 Port Lavaca No. 373 and Order of the Eastern Star for 61 years (July 14, 1938). He was a Shriner of the Corpus Christi Chapter. He was the first Volunteer Fire Chief at the Port Lavaca Fire Department, where he served for 26 years. He was a member of the Port Lavaca Rotary Club and held a perfect attendance record there for 55 years. He was a volunteer driver for "Meals on Wheels" at the Senior Citizens Center for several years. He also had a "little white house" down near the creek which all of the family enjoyed for over 20 years.

Blake loved and held complete allegiance to Port Lavaca and Calhoun County. He loved to go to Medina and Bandera to hunt deer. But his heart never left Port Lavaca even when he came to Lakeland, FL and Mobile, Ala. to visit his daughter's family. He loved to go, regardless of what time and where, but he always knew where home lay.
Blake is survived by his daughter, Marynelle Blake Bruce of Kerrville; sons, Boyd Cecil Blake and William Fred Blake, both of Port Lavaca; five grandchildren, Jenna Bruce of Victoria, Pamela Furnary of Antioch, CA, Tracy Blake and Bradley Blake both of Port Lavaca and Vera Bayless of Fort Worth; four great grandchildren, Erin Furnary and Paige Furnary both of Antioch, CA and Justin Bayless and Christopher Bayless both of Fort Worth.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Ruth Selby Blake; parents; sistes, Lela Lenertz and Maudie Blake; brothers, Marvin Blake, Everett Blake, Lee Blake and Floyd Blake.
Services were conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, Nov. 10 at the First Baptist Church with the Rev. David Bush and the Rev. Dr. Timothy Brewer officiating.

Burial under the auspices of Masonic Lodge 36 AF&AM followed in the Port Lavaca Cemetery.

Pallbearers were members of the Masonic Lodge 36 AF&AM. Honorary pallbearers were N.F. Pennington, Sam Allen Pennington, Don Hinds, L.C. Gossett, Robert Morgenroth, Harry Frankson, J.C. Melcher, Ira Nicholson Jr. and the Rotary Club members.

Arrangements were under the direction of Richardson Funeral Home.
