Anthony "Cal" F. Calandriello, 87, of Beachwood, went home to be with the Lord and his beloved wife Angie on May 12, 2009. Born in Jersey City, NJ, Mr. Calandriello was a Beachwood resident since 1986.

A WWII hero, Mr. Calandriello was involved in 9 battles while in the Army. He was in the first wave at Normandy Beach and Omaha Beach and the Battle of the Bulge. He met Gen. George Patton and served under Gen. Omar Bradley. He was the first one over and the last to come home. He worked for A&P for 38 years and IGA for 13 years. He was a high school baseball star and was drafted into the minor leagues but enlisted in the Army.

He leaves behind two daughters, Catherine Collins and Maria Muller and her husband Harry, all of Toms River; four grandchildren, Harry and Linda Muller, Dana and Ryan Descafano, Christie and Rich Sistad and Heather Muller and Jay Damore; six great-grandchildren, Richie, Logan, Christopher, Camryn, Samantha and Jacob; a sister, Louise Henson of Lancaster, PA and many wonderful nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by two sisters, Mable Lanni and Ann Caggiano; and three brothers, Joe, John and George.
