William Alfred Cole was the son of Ebenezer Cole and Mary Romans. His grandfather, Zachary/Zacheus, is a proven soldier who served in McFarland's Company in Washington and Montgomery counties, VA during the American Revolution. This lineage and his service is documented with the Daughters of the American Revolution. William married Nancy Maxey April 28, 1831 in Warren Co., KY. They had 14 children: William, Julia, Emaline, Sarah, Alexander, two infant sons who died, Hezakiah, Albert, Joseph, Columbus, James, Alfred, and Judith. All of their childrens' names and birthdates were found in a Cole Family Bible, a copy of which can be found in his grandfather, Zachary Cole's, DAR patriot file in Washington, DC.
