Mrs. Catharine Buchanan (Obituary)
Mrs. Catharine Buchanan, relict of James Buchanan, died at her home in this place at 7 o'clock Friday evening, September 7, 1900.
Deceased was a native of Juniata County and was born April 22, 1838, hence was aged 62 years, 4 months and 15 days. About 1865, she was married to James Buchanan, who died on the Quinter farm north of Mapleton, August 24, 1891. To them were born seven sons and two daughters. The seven sons are living and reside, Samuel and Albert at Mattawana, and James, George, Edward, Henry, and William at Mapleton.
After her marriage she and her husband commenced housekeeping in Black Log Valley, subsequently residing at McVeytown, near McVeytown, and Huntingdon. In 1891, they moved to the Quinter farm where Mr. Buchanan died and the next spring, the family moved to Mapleton where they continued to reside.
Mrs. Buchanan is also survived by two brothers and one sister. They are Joseph Myers, of Oklahoma, William Myers, of Iowa, and Mrs. Leah Bolinger, of Missouri. When the family came to this neighborhood Mrs. Buchanan was a strong, robust woman but about four years ago she commenced failing and so continued until she was reduced to a frail, delicate creature unable to assist herself. Her sons at home did all in their power to alleviate her sufferings and cheerfully and lovingly ministered to her wants. About thirty years ago she united with the Dunkard Church and those who knew her say she lived an exemplary life.
Last Sunday morning brief funeral services, conducted by Rev. B. C. Shaw, were held at the house after which the remains were taken to McVeytown on sea shore express where interment was made.
