Dorothy Scott Myers Knowlton Adams was a native Houstonian and member of the well-known Myers family of early 20th century Houston. She was the daughter of William S Myers and Helen Culle Scott.

Dorothy was raised in her family's large home on a full city block at the corner of McGowen and St. Emanuel streets, near the current convention center. Dorothy's father owned the Myers-Spalti Company, manufacturer of furniture and mattress located on Runnells St. and Navigation Blvd. just east of downtown Houston. The family sold the business to Sealy Mattress Co. in the 1950s and began manufacturing and selling Curtis Mathis televisions. Later generations were in the ranching business.

Dorothy was an independent and strong willed person, a professional educator, and pioneer in the field of learning disabilities. She was very well read, a world traveler, and an avid genealogist. Her genealogical research is preserved in the Library of Congress and the Houston Public Library.

She was preceded in death by her first husband Robert Allen Knowlton, Sr., her son John Scott Knowlton, and her second husband Lloyd Acker Adams. She is buried beside her first husband, Robert Knowlton, in Forest Park West Cemetery, Houston, Texas.
