When the Kenton family moved from Virginia to Kentucky in 1783, Philip Kenton went with the party under the leadership of Simon Kenton to Kenton's Station instead of traveling with his parents into the area of Mercer County. Likewise, it appears that when his father, William Kenton, removed to Ohio Phillip remained in Kentucky. The first purchase of land that Philip made in Champaign County, Ohio was not until 21 June 1813 when he obtained acreage in Section 14 of Concord Township. The date of Philip's return to Kentucky is not known.
