Weldon B. Vines was born June 8, 1919 in Comanche County, Texas to Callie and Nancy Vines. He died at his home February 12, 2007. He grew up on a farm where he learned to love nature. He joined the Baptist Church at a young age. He graduated from Texas A&M University in 1940 and married Lilli Belle McPherson. He served in the US Air Force during World War II. After the war, he worked for Farm Security and taught agriculture in GI School. He spent thirty years in ranch management. He was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed fishing, hunting, and team roping.
Weldon is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lilli Belle and their three daughters and their husbands: Kay and James Meadows of Houston, Texas, DeAnna and Ferrell Lake of Montgomery, Texas, and Vicki and Bobby Josey of Kingwood, Texas. He was known as “Pop” to his six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild. Weldon is also survived by two brothers: T.C. Vines of Hempstead and Truitt Vines and wife Elteen of Synder, Texas, nephew James Vines and wife Betty and great-nephew J.R. Vines and wife Jennifer.
