Charles was the son of Edwin Elliott Bloodgood (1878-1915) and Bessie Gertrude Geddes (1880-1943).

Charles was working with Stephens Wholesale Grocers in Beatrice, Nebraska. He moved his family in 1943 to Denver, Colorado, where he worked for Montgomery Ward as a Security Police. In 1944, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and was sent as a Radar Man 1st Class to the South Pacific War Zone. He served on the USS Dade, a troop transport. This ship transported U.S. troops to Okinawa, and later, occupation troops to Japan. After his discharge from the Navy in 1946, Charles again worked for Montgomery Ward in Portland, Oregon.
Charles bought and managed a restaurant in Portland for four years. Through contacts made in the restaurant business he found employment again in wholesale foods, which became his work for the rest of his working years.
In 1953 Charles and Mary bought a 39 acre farm near Wilsonville, Oregon. After their children moved out, the couple moved to Tigard, Oregon.

Charles married Mary Kathryn Green (1916-2008) and had the following children:
