One of the best known gentleman of Harrodsburg was taken to his reward when Mr. Archie B. Rue passed away Monday morning about 2 o'clock at the Danville and Boyle County Hospital, where he had been removed from his home in this city to undergo an operation. Mr. Rue was 77 years of age and had been breaking in health for sometime, but when he became really ill hopes were felt that he would recover until a few days before the operation, when the attending physician decided that was the only method to relieve him. His death was the cause of sincere regret here, for Mr. Rue was known to everyone and much liked in the community as a high type of Christian gentleman. He was a native of Mercer and fought through the Civil War and was at the siege of Vicksburg under Grant. He was the son of Mr. and Mrs. Nelson Rue, and a member of a large and influential family. He was all his live a devoted member of the Presbyterian Church. In 1865 he was married to Miss Jessie Anderson, daughter of Rev. and Mrs. Henry T. Anderson, and a talented artist. To them six children were born, four of whom are now living in Harrodsburg, Mrs. Lelia Linney, Mr. Insco Rue, Mrs. James Page Spilman, Mrs. G. F. McMurchy. Three brothers and a sister also survive him, Messrs. D. N., L. M. and W. C. Rue, of this city and Mrs. William Owings, of Lexington. Mr. Rue was one of the best known photographers of Kentucky and practiced his profession in Louisville, Harrodsburg and Danville, but for a number of years has remained in this city. He was generally liked and respected by everyone and the many handsome floral offerings bore testimony to this popularity and the sympathy of friends for the bereaved family. The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon at 3:30 o'clock at the Presbyterian Church, conducted by Rev. J. J. Rice, his pastor, assisted by Rev. E. B. Bourland, pastor of the Christian Church. A number of out-of-town friends and relatives attended the obsequies.
