Ruth McCreary is the grandmother of George Washington McCrary (b.8/29/1835 Evansville, Vanderburgh Co, IN, through her son, James and Matilda Forrest. He was Secretary of War under President Rutherford B. Hayes. Please see site #6911997.

Ruth Wasson's lineage:

John Wasson (Weisen) was born ABT 1700 Londonderry, Ireland, died 7/?/1777 in Rowan Co, NC. He married in 1713 to Mary _____. He is the father of Archibald Wasson, and the grandfather of James Wasson, and the great grandfather of Ruth Wasson, whom, along with her husband, John Mcreary (McCrary), are the subjects of this grave site. In 1795 Rev. John McCrary married Ruth Wasson, daughter of James Wasson (born BET 1747 AND 1755 ROWAN Co, NC, died ?/?/1813 BOURBON Co, KY) and Catherine ________ (born ?/?/1757 Rowan Co, NC, and died 7/10/1839). Her parents were married about 1772in Rowan Co, NC. Ruth and John began their domestic life in North Carolina, but on account of the institution of slavery they removed to Tennessee where they made their home until 1810. Ruth was from that part of Rowan County that now is Iredell County, the same Iredell County area as my 4th great grandparents were from, Robert Long and Betsy Wasson. John and Ruth are known to have produced six sons and five daughters. John is the very preacher who married Robert Long's son, John Franklin Long to Sarah Alexander Patton in 1826 in "Old Liberty", IN. This Liberty is not the present day Liberty. The old Liberty was just about three miles east of Cynthiana, in southwestern Indiana. In the first eight years of marraige for Ruth's parents , only three known children were born . It is likely that Elizabeth Wasson could have been born to them sometime in the first eight years, but no proof, as yet, has been found. In 1810 Rev. John McCreary, wife Ruth (Wasson), and seven children moved from Maury Co, TN and settled on "Blankenburger Hill" just a few miles southeast of Cynthiana, IN. John and Ruth helped start the little community of Liberty, just about three miles east of Cynthiana. They were part of the founding members of the New Liberty Church, there by Blankenburger Hill. Just a year after they moved there John faught at the Battle of Tippecanoe. On 8/12/1831 John McCreary became pastor of the New Liberty Church. In June of 1835 John and Ruth were talked into moving to Illinois, as a lot of the old folks were persuaded by the young and adventurous to move. So they moved with a lot of their children's families to McDonough Co, IL -- the Spoon River Antholagy area. Abner Nelson Long (son of Robert Long and Betsy Wasson) moved his family along with them, but Robert and Betsy may have stayed, since they had a good business there. The McCrary's only stayed in McDonough Co, IL for a year and then pushed on to the "Wisconsin Territory" and settled in Van Buren County, IA (all of the present day state of Iowa was, then, part of the Wisconsin Territory). Ruth and John are both buried at Keosaqua, Van Buren, IA, in the Lippincott McCrary Cemetery. John and Ruth McCreary were leading citizens of Posey and Vanderburgh Counties of Indiana. Under the existing laws of the state of Indian, John Mcreary was appointed and served as a side judge (citizens who were not lawyers, but appointed to sit with judges in Superior and Family courts to help mitigate the complex judicial matters).
