`Geraldine was the daughter of Frank Jay Dixon and Ester Moore. Geraldine married Ramond Van James in Chicago in 1945, they had one daughter, Diane.

She owned and operated Bride's Lane and James Dress Shop both in Peoria, Illinois. She was chairwoman of the first Heart Fund Drive, the first Cancer Fund Drive, and the first City Beautiful Drive all in Peoria. Gerry was also the past president and member of the American Business Women's Association.
