Aged 76 yrs, 6 mo.
----------------------------
Daughter of Caleb and Amelia Wright.
Caleb Wright came to what later became (in the 1820s) the village of Nichols, in the town of Nichols, county of Tioga, state of New York, in 1791. Here upon the banks of the Wauppesening Creek where it flowed to the Susquehanna River, he established a farm, and later a sawmill. Upon his death, and through his WILL, he left land for a public burial ground (believed to be East Nichols Cemetery). It was his land that was first parceled up by his son-in-law Robert WILLIAMS into lots forming city blocks and sold off. The village formed was known by several names before the name of Nichols was applied to the Village. Though we do not have documentation that shows that Amelia was born on her father's farm, we can reasonably assume this. Since the village of Nichols now stands where her father's farm once stood, we have applied the name of the town as her birth location feeling it is more accurate than the more general 'Tioga County' (which implies land outside of a known village).
