Tillie, her parents, and her 3 brothers and 4 sisters arrived in America from Shaffhausen, Prussia, by way of Ellis Island on the ship St. Lawrence on September 13, 1881. The family temporarily settled in Allegheny County, Pennsylvania, before moving on to Trimble County, Kentucky, where her father had purchased a farm in the Bottoms of the Ohio River Valley. Tillie married Christian W. "Christ" Weis on February 18, 1892, in Allegheny County. Tillie and Christ had ten children. One infant died prematurely. The other nine in birth order were Rose, Anna, Frederick, Kathryn, William, Mary (also called Mollie), Christian (also called Christ), Matilda, and Raymond.
