Lawrence E. Coomes served as a Private 1st Class in the 566th Anti-Aircraft Artillery, Automatic Weapons Battalion, Coast Artillery Corps, United States Army during World War II.

He was a son of Edward Alexander Coomes and Elizabeth Trecia (Mount) Coomes.

He enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 7, 1943.

He received his discharge from the Army on October 12, 1945.

He was originally from Browns Valley, Kentucky.

He was interred in the Gettysburg National Cemetery on February 24, 1969.
