Lt. Col. Hampton Lee Antley, US Army Ret., entered into eternal rest on Monday evening, May 6, 2002 after a brief illness. He was ninety years old and the husband of Claribel D. Antley. The relatives and friends of Lt. Col. and Mrs. Hampton L. Antley are invited to attend the funeral services of the former Thursday, May 9, 2002 in First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant at 4:00 o'clock. Burial with full military honors will follow in Mount Pleasant Memorial Gardens. Friends may call at J. Henry Stuhr, Inc., Mount Pleasant Chapel Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00 o'clock. Hamp was born in Norway, SC in 1911 and grew up on a farm near Canadys, SC, where he enjoyed hunting, fishing and swimming in the Edisto River. Hamp attended Clemson University and received a commission in to the regular U.S. Army while in Paris, France. He retired as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1956 after twenty-three years of service and moved to Mount Pleasant with his wife and family. He was a charter member of the Fort Moultrie Old Timers Club. He was a faithful member of the First Baptist Church of Mount Pleasant for forty-six years. Surviving are his wife of fifty-nine years, Claribel Dawson Antley of Mt. Pleasant, SC, three daughters, Helen Zorn of Mt. Pleasant, SC; Frances Harbeson of Summerville, SC; and Deborah Antley Hulett of Mt. Pleasant, SC; one son, Marcus Dawson Antley of Anderson, SC; two sisters, Mary Blount of Aiken, SC and Dorothy Neale of Charleston, SC; one brother, Benjamin Antley of Charleston, SC; eight grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
