John Matthews, an aged and respected citizen of Sunville, peacefully passed from this life Nov. 22d, aged 76 years, 11 months and 4 days.
Mr. Matthews was ill but a few days. He was a son of Samuel and Louisa Ambrose Matthews and is survived by one brother, Frederic, of Wisconsin, aged 86 years, also three sisters - Mrs. Matilda McAlevy, widow of the late William McAlevy, of Jackson township, who is 84 years of age; Mrs. J.F. Davison, of Bradleytown, and Mrs. I.P. Foster, of Sunville, with whom the deceased made his home
Funeral services were conducted by his pastor, Rev. Chapin, of the M.E. church, assisted by Rev. Giffen, of Utica. The pall-bearers were the following nephews: B.S. Matthews, F.H. Davison, A.L. Matthews, John and D.A. McAlevy and George Lupher.
