Son of Edward and Mary Watson Wheeler

He married Annie M. Kaighin

He died from injuries sustained in an automobile accident

A terrible car accident last Thursday claimed the life of Robert L. Wheeler, who was so badly injured in the wreck, which occurred on Highway 63, a few miles south of Houston, that he only lived a few hours and died near the Hog Creek crossing of Highway 63 as he was being taken to the hospital for treatment for a broken back; heart failure was the cause of his death.

Robert Lewis Wheeler was the son of Judge and Mrs. Edward H. Wheeler, a family that has been actively connected with the affairs of Texas county for a long term of past years. Robert was born in Texas county, Missouri, January 14, 1872, and passed away June 23rd, 1938, at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 9 days. He was married to Anna Kaighin in 1897, and to this union eleven children were born; one son died in infancy. Mrs. Wheeler preceded him in death November 3, 1922.

Robert L. Wheeler was a Texas countyite to the manor born and spent his entire life in this county. He was a farmer, a stockman, and recently had been in the mercantile business at Simmons. His business there had just been disposed of to R. R. Hicks.

Robert Wheeler is survived by 10 children: Gladys Myers, Ellis Prairie, Mo.; Emma Vandiver, Hartville, Mo.; Cora Anchors, Kansas City, Mo.; Hortis Hollenbeck, of Bucyrus, Mo.; George Wheeler, Ellis Prairie, Mo.; Roscoe Wheeler, Bucyrus, Mo.; Bill Wheeler, Irene Holland, Houston, Mo.; Wilma Wheeler, Kansas City, Mo.; Madaline Wheeler, Kansas City, Mo.; brothers, Jesse A. Wheeler, Mountain Grove, Mo.; John M. and Cleve Wheeler, Billings, Montana; sisters, Laura Warfield, Devon, Kansas; Cora Haggard, Port Arthur, Texas; Lillie McKinney and Maud Hayward, Peoria, Illinois.

Robert L. Wheeler was known as an honest man; he paid his debts as a good citizen should do; he did his part as a neighbor and he was a friend to many who were in need. Robert L. Wheeler had his faults, as all persons do; what man is there without his faults? Above all he was considered a good citizen, a good neighbor and a good friend. May all have as much said for them when the time of passing comes.

Funeral services were held at Ozark church, in the shadow of the old home farm where Bob and the other Wheeler boys played in their childhood days, Sunday afternoon, 3 o'clock. Funeral preached by Rev. J. R. Halbrook. Funeral under direction of Elliott Funeral Home. Burial in the beautiful Ozark cemetery.

Great crowd of neighbors and friends assembled for the last rites. The bereaved children and other relatives have the earnest sympathy of all, in which the Herald sincerely joins.
