Cody D. Fortner, 25, of Georgetown, died on Tuesday, July 6, 2010.At the time of his death, he had worked with Georgetown Grounds Management for many years. He was a member of the Highway 58 Volunteer Fire Department, Station #4 where he received commendations including Rookie Fire Fighter of the Year in 2003 and Firefighter of the year in 2009. Cody loved serving with the Fire Department. Cody loved to hunt and fish and he attended the Gamble Road Baptist Church and the Victory House of Prayer.He was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Shirley Kennedy; his paternal grandfather, Carl W. Fortner; and his step-grandfather, Wayne Tinsley.
Survivors include his wife, Star Fortner of Georgetown; his mother, Barbara Tinsley and her husband Gale also of Georgetown; his father, Carl E. Fortner of Birchwood; his brother, Shane Fortner also of Birchwood; his maternal grandmother, Mary Wallace; his paternal grandmother, Robbie Fortner all of Birchwood; his mother and father-in-law, Laura and Charles Hale of Georgetown; his step-sister, Mitzi Cottrell of Cleveland; his step-grandmother, Mary Tinsley of Charleston; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.The Remembrance of Life Service will be conducted Saturday, July 10 at 3 p.m. from the North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes with the Reverend Lloyd Harvill and Reverend David Evans officiating. Interment will follow in the McInturf Cemetery with Timmy Hyde, Joe Leamon, Brian Sterns, Charlie Willoughby, Will Leamon and Blaine Arwood serving as pallbearers. The family will receive friends from 2-9 p.m. on Friday, July 9 at the North Ocoee Chapel of the Jim Rush Funeral Homes who has charge of the arrangements.
