Robert F. Acker, 84, 2337 Elk St., Lake City, died Sunday, May 20, 2001, at his home after a lengthy illness.
He was born Dec. 2, 1916, in East Chicago, Ind., son of the late Frederick and Allie Councilman Acker.
He graduated from Whiting (Ind.) High School, then attended Edinboro State. He worked as postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service in Lake City, retiring in 1980 after 25 years.
He served as president of the Postmaster Association of Northwestern Pennsylvania and was a member of Lake Erie Lodge 347 F. & A.M. for 54 years. He was also associated with the Girard Little League.
He was a member of the Valley of Erie Consistory, the Royal Order of Jesters, the Arab Patrol and Zem Zem Shrine of Erie, the Lake City Chamber of Commerce and the Erie County Toastmasters.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Stubbins.
Survivors include his wife, Bettie Acker, whom he married June 3, 1939; a son, Robert Acker and his wife, Mary Ann, of Wickliffe, Ohio; two sisters, Alice Super of Sun Lakes, Ariz., and Violet Regan of Whiting; a brother, Dick Acker of Eureka, Ill.; four grandchildren, Cynthia Lynn Allen, Tiffany Kirk, Robert Acker Jr. and Bethany Nichols; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
There will be no calling hours. Graveside and Masonic services will be held Thursday at 1 p.m. Burial will be at Girard Cemetery.
Arrangements were handled by the Samuel J. Steff Funeral Home, 188 E. State St., Albion. Memorials may be made to the Erie Shriners Hospital for Children, 1645 W. Eighth St., Erie, PA 16502.
