Rev. Hines soon died, leaving Ann with baby Gussie. Ann moved to Goldendale to be closer to her brother who operated a store. She soon took very ill herself and eventually died. Her body was taken to Lee Mission, Salem, Marion County, Oregon where she was interred next to Rev. Hines.
When her mother knew that her days on this earth were numbered she selected the childless Hichenbothem's to provide a home for her. They were well known to both her father and mother, as they were very involved in the Methodist Church in the area. However, her little life was snuffed out when she contracted diptheria at the age of 8 years old.
She is actually buried in the Hicenbothem plot in the cemetery, however, there is no stone. A stone was erected at Lee Mission Cemetery with her parents that reads " Gussie Hines......their only child sleeps in Goldendale, Washington Territory." However it is not Goldendale, but the Maryhill/Columbus Cemetery.
Her foster parents are buried in this cemetery. Foster mother: Mary (Brown) Hicenbothem/Barney # 19163473
Foster father: William Hicenbothem # 19163665
NOTE: There is a monument in her memory in the Goldendale Cemetery, put there by her foster parents. Not known why it was put in that particular place as she is buried in the Hicenbothem plot in Columbus/Maryhill.
