C. F. Mason

Cyrenius Fuller Mason was born at Sandusky, New York, October 24 1848. He was the son of Dr. Cordon and Delia Fuller Mason. Soon after Dr. Mason returned from his service in the Civil War, the family moved to Rushford, N. Y. Here Mr. Mason attended the old Rushford Academy and in 1867 united with the Baptist church. His marriage to Harriett Botsford occurred in 1876, but in 1893 she died, leaving three daughters, Delia, Marion and Ruth. Within a few years of this time his parents and only brother, Leonard Harper, passed away.

For many years Mr. Mason was in poor health but an operation in 1901 restored him to active life and for 20 years thereafter he was much more vigorous than many at his age. Most of this time was spent traveling about in the employment of the Agricultural Department at Cornell University, making official tests of registered herds. His work was suddenly ended April 15, 1921, when he suffered a stroke of apoplexy. The past four years he has been cared for at the home of his daughter, Mrs. C. H. Watson of this village. A reoccurance of the disease on March 29th caused a gradual weakening and he passed away Thursday morning, April 23rd.

Brief services were held at the Watson home on Center street, Saturday at noon and in the Rushford cemetery at three p.m., where interment was made.

There are still left to us rich memories of a good man, one who knew great tribulation, but who still was patient and eager to help others, a man of especially keen mind and broad interests, even thru his years of enforced idleness. Those left to mourn his going especially are his sister, Sarah C. Mason, and his three daughters, Mrs. L. G. Lyon of Staten Island, Marion C. Mason of Scranton, Pa., and Mrs. C. H. Watson of Andover.
