Laura Alexander was the daughter of John Bean & Philura Lathrop. She married Samuel Alexander abt 1837 in Vermont and they had four children: Marcia E, John B, Laura M, and Frank P. John died at the age of 6 years in Vermont.

The family was living in Beloit, Wisconsin when the Civil War began. Samuel enlisted in 1861 and served with the 5th Wisconsin Infantry as a Full Principal Musician. He received a disability discharge in 1862.

They were living in Fremont County, Iowa by 1870. Laura and son Frank were living with daughter Marcia, who married Charles Danforth. Samuel soon followed.

Laura and Sam farmed for a few years. Laura died in 1898 at the age of 84 years. Samuel moved in with his daughter and son-in-law and died in 1903 at the age of 89 years.
