Funeral services for Mrs. Alice Guess Utsey of 214 Gordon St. in Charleston, widow of James David Utsey, will take place today at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Methodist Church in Bamberg with the Rev. W. F. Baker and the Rev. J. F. M. Hoffmeyer officiating. Burial will be in South End Cemetery in Bamberg. Pallbearers will be Harold B. Risher, William U. Guess, W. Alfred Utsey, F. Gene Risher, A. Willard Utsey Jr. and Fred U. Davis Jr. Mrs. Utsey was born Sept. 17, 1874, in Denmark, a daughter of William J. Guess and Mrs. Annie Garrick Guess. She was a member of the St. James Methodist Church in Charleston. Surviving are four sons, five daughters, a stepdaughter, three brothers, 30 grandchildren and 27 great grandchildren. © The News and Courier, Charleston, SC, 18 Nov 1962
